Mogadishu (Isbahaysi ) – President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea departed for Seoul this afternoon to participate in the 2024 South Korea – Africa Summit. The summit, set to take place from June 3-4, will bring together leaders from across the African continent to discuss key issues and foster stronger ties with South Korea.

President Afwerki’s delegation includes Foreign Minister Osman Saleh, highlighting the importance Eritrea places on this international gathering. The summit aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including economic development, technology, and education, while also addressing common challenges such as climate change and regional security.

According to the Minister of Information, Yemane Meskel, President Afwerki’s visit comes at the invitation of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, reflecting the growing diplomatic relations between Eritrea and South Korea. The two leaders are expected to engage in bilateral talks to further strengthen the partnership between their nations.

As the summit convenes, leaders from both continents will seek to build on existing partnerships and explore new avenues for mutual growth and development. The outcomes of these discussions are anticipated to have a lasting impact on South Korea-Africa relations, with potential benefits for economic progress and geopolitical stability in the respective regions.

This year’s South Korea – Africa summit is themed “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity”.
