Somalia, which will hold the seat from 2025 to 2026, began its diplomatic efforts for this term during the administration of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
At the end of 2018, Somalia’s UN Ambassador Abuukar Baalle submitted Somalia’s application for this seat, which was among the files taken over by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Support from the African Union Peace and Security Council facilitated Somalia’s membership, making it one of the three African countries in the Council, guiding peace, stability, and security on the continent.
