Mugadishu (Isbahaysi) Isbahaysi has learnt that the authentication of documents required by Somali citizens both within the country and abroad has been transferred to a private company.
Document authentication, one of the most common services required by Somali citizens and businesses from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has seen its fees significantly increased after being transferred to a company jointly owned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
A company named TASDIIQ DOCUMENTS AUTHENTICATION SOLUTIONS has taken over the duties previously handled by the Consular Department, which was responsible for verifying and approving commercial agreements, marriage and divorce certificates, educational certificates, licenses, and legal attestations.
A payment receipt seen by Isbahaysi shows that fees have increased by more than 100%. For example, documents that used to be authenticated for $20 are now being charged $45, with the revenue being shared between the company and its shareholders.
The main reason for expediting this contract was to implement it before the opening of the parliamentary session to avoid questions from the relevant committees.
Previous Fees and New Fees:
– Birth Certificates: Previously $20, now $45
– Foreign Agency Documents: Previously $20, now $70
– Municipal Certificates: Previously $20, now $45
1. Citizens’ information being handled by a private entity, including personal assets, registered companies, official land ownership documents, etc.
2. Delays in services previously provided to citizens since the authentication is now done by a private company, which may face difficulties collaborating easily with foreign consulates.
3. Additional costs for citizens who need authentication services, as they now need to pay the government fee and an extra service fee.
